Today was his lucky day: Mosiria saves bag snatcher from angry mob
By Ascah Mwango, June 1, 2026Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement, Geoffrey Mosiria, has recounted a dramatic early-morning encounter in Kilimani, where he says he rescued a suspected thief from a furious mob.
In a statement shared via his X account on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Mosiria described stumbling upon the incident while heading home around 3:45 a.m.
“Today at around 3:45 a.m., as I was heading home after rescuing a child who had allegedly been abused by her mother, I came across a mob that was beating a suspected thief and threatening to burn him alive at Kilimani next to DOD,” he said.
According to Mosiria, the young man was accused of stealing a handbag from a woman while in the company of two other suspects who managed to escape. He said he stepped in before the situation escalated further and ensured the suspect was taken to safety. The incident, he noted, reflected how quickly street justice can spiral out of control.
“The young man was accused of stealing a handbag from a woman while in the company of two other suspects who managed to escape. I intervened, rescued him from the mob, and handed him over to Kilimani Police Station,” Mosiria stated.

He further revealed that despite the beating, the suspect remained silent about his alleged accomplices, raising questions about loyalty among criminals even in the face of danger.
“Despite the severe beating he had received, he refused to reveal the identities or whereabouts of the other suspects. I often wonder why some criminals remain so loyal to their accomplices that they would rather endure such punishment than provide information about them,” he said.
Mosiria used the moment to urge young people involved in petty crime to reconsider their choices, warning that such actions often end in regret, injury, or worse. He stressed that luck does not always show up in human form at 3 a.m. with rescue plans.
“I call upon petty thieves to abandon this dangerous path of stealing and, in some cases, harming innocent citizens. When they are caught, they often expect mercy, yet their actions continue to put others at risk,” he said.
“Today was this young man’s lucky day. Tomorrow, he may not find someone willing to intervene on his behalf, and the outcome could be tragic. The best choice is to stop engaging in crime and pursue an honest livelihood before it is too late,” Mosiria stated.
