Tim Curry’s cause of death revealed

E! News reported on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that Curry died from coronary artery disease, according to documents obtained by People from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The documents also listed a history of stroke and kidney cancer as contributing conditions, although neither was identified as the underlying cause of his death.
Curry died at his Los Angeles home
Curry died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles. He was 80.
His death was confirmed by his manager, Marcia Hurwitz, with reports indicating that Curry died peacefully. The Los Angeles Police Department also responded to a call at a North Hollywood-area home that night and conducted a death investigation. There were no indications of foul play.
Health struggles after 2012 stroke
Curry’s health had been affected by a major stroke he suffered in 2012. The medical emergency required brain surgery and left him with lasting mobility problems.
During a 2025 appearance marking the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry discussed the difficulties he continued to experience. He remained unable to walk and used a wheelchair while also dealing with problems affecting his left leg.
The actor had previously described having to relearn how to speak following the stroke. His father had also died after suffering a stroke when Curry was 10 years old.
Despite the health challenges, Curry continued working, particularly in voice acting, and remained connected to audiences. He also published his memoir, Vagabond, in 2025.
A career spanning decades
Curry became internationally recognised after portraying Dr Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a role he had first performed on stage.
He later appeared in films including Clue, Annie and Muppet Treasure Island, while also becoming widely known for playing Pennywise in the television adaptation of Stephen King’s It. His career also included theatre performances and voice work.
In the months before his death, Curry reflected on mortality and maintained a characteristically candid outlook about the subject.
His death marks the end of a career that spanned stage, film and television, leaving behind performances that continued to influence generations of fans.
