TikToker Zack Apela to be buried in Ahero as family unveils Ksh4.5M body repatriation budget

The family of late Kenyan TikToker Zack Apela has announced that he will be laid to rest in his ancestral home in Ahero, Kisumu County, while revealing that they need at least Ksh4.5 million to repatriate his body from the United States ahead of the burial.

Speaking during a family update on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Zack’s brother, Dr Solo, disclosed that a burial committee had already reached a consensus on the location of the burial and had also proposed a tentative burial date.

According to him, the family is planning to bury the popular TikToker on July 18, 2026, although the date is yet to be confirmed, as preparations largely depend on the availability of funds.

“We also agreed that he will be buried back home in Ahero. The committee agreed that the burial will tentatively be on July 18. It’s not final because it depends on a lot of things, including finances, which is the biggest thing,” Dr Solo said.

He explained that the biggest challenge facing the family is the enormous cost of transporting Zack’s body from the United States to Kenya.

According to Dr Solo, the current quotation for repatriating the body stands at USD35,000, which translates to approximately Ksh4.5 million, and that amount only caters for transporting the body.

“The cost of transporting the body today is USD35,000. That is just to bring his body. There are still many other costs involved,” he revealed.

He noted that families who have previously repatriated the remains of loved ones from abroad would understand how expensive the process can be.

Besides the transportation costs, the family is also expected to cater for funeral arrangements, burial preparations and other logistical expenses before Zack can finally be laid to rest.

Dr Solo appealed to Kenyans, especially members of the TikTok community, to come together and support the family in giving Zack a dignified send-off.

He described the late content creator as someone who touched many lives through social media and expressed hope that those who followed and supported him during his lifetime would also stand with the family during this difficult period.

“Zack was one of your TikTokers. He was close to me and I would love it if we buried him with respect. With one heart, let people come together and contribute,” he appealed.

To facilitate the fundraising effort, Dr Solo confirmed that the family has already released official donation channels, including a fundraising flyer, Paybill details, Cash App and other payment options to enable well-wishers to contribute.

He added that the burial committee is coordinating the fundraising process and assured supporters that every member of Zack’s family is fully aware of and supports the initiative.

“The committee is already aware that Zack is being helped and money will be raised. Everyone in the family is aware,” he said.
