‘There is a lot going on’ – Eric Omondi turns to prayer and worship for divine intervention
By Ascah Mwango, June 2, 2026Self-proclaimed “President of the People” Eric Omondi has traded his regular street protests and political mega-megaphones for a church microphone, transforming into a praise and worship leader to seek spiritual intervention for a troubled country.
In a surprising video shared on his official Instagram account on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the veteran entertainer and active activist was captured standing on the altar, passionately leading a church congregation in a deep moment of spiritual devotion.
Clad in a sharp outfit and looking entirely at home on the pulpit, Omondi closed his eyes and poured his heart out into a microphone, belting out popular Swahili gospel choruses.
“Hakuna Mungu kama wewe, wewe ni Alfa na Omega…. (There is no God like you, you are the Alpha and Omega),” Omondi sang out dynamically as the backup choir members and the congregation followed his lead in unison.
The unexpected display highlighted a deeper, more reflective side of the comedian, who has spent the first half of 2026 aggressively campaigning as an independent candidate for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Captioning the video, Omondi explained that his sudden shift toward faith was driven by the overwhelming socio-economic and political challenges currently plaguing the country – including the highly controversial debate regarding the country’s regional health safety.
According to Omondi, Kenya’s mounting systemic issues have reached a threshold where human leadership must be supplemented by a higher power.
“Kenya needs a lot of Prayers. There is a lot going on,” Omondi sounded the alarm in his caption, adding that the ongoing public anxieties across the country have created an urgent need for national reconciliation and spiritual unity.
The worship session serves as a curtain-raiser for a massive spiritual event slated for later this week.
Eric Omondi announced that he has actively partnered with world-renowned Nigerian televangelist Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founding leader of Christ Embassy, for a massive national prayer rally.
The high-profile crusade, scheduled to take place this coming weekend, is being billed as a major moment for national healing.
“On the 6th and 7th of June Kenya will experience a divine moment as Pastor Chris Oyakhilome leads us in a time of Prayer for a divine Intervention for our Country,” Omondi told his millions of social media followers.
He concluded with an open invitation to struggling citizens, writing: “Come let’s Worship and Pray Together. See You there 🙏🙏🙏🙏.”
The viral video has sparked massive conversation online, with fans and political observers widely praising the comedian’s versatile transition from lighthearted entertainment to humanitarian activism, and now, to guiding the country’s spiritual morale.
