Terryanne Chebet shares the unexpected moment that launched her media career

Veteran media personality Terryanne Chebet has opened up about the unexpected moment that set her on the path to a successful media career, revealing how one person’s belief in her talent changed her life.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday, July 17, 2026, Terryanne recalled being a 19-year-old girl from Kitale who had just finished high school and was still discovering who she was when she found herself in an acting class at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

She had hoped to study at the institution but did not secure a place. However, an unexpected opportunity brought her to the same grounds when she was invited to take part in acting classes for set books and later got a chance to do voiceover work for a radio drama.

At the time, Terryanne said she never imagined her voice would become her greatest asset.

Words that changed everything

Terryanne revealed that it was Rashid Ronald who first encouraged her to consider radio, telling her she had the right voice for broadcasting.

She said the simple statement came at a time when she was still unsure of herself and did not yet recognise her own potential.

“I did not become a broadcaster because I believed in myself first. I became one because someone else saw it before I did,” she shared.

According to Terryanne, those words opened a door she had never planned for but eventually changed the direction of her life.

People behind her journey

Years later, while recording a voiceover for a documentary, Terryanne said the memory came back and reminded her of the people who helped shape her journey.

She also paid tribute to the late Tony Msalame, known for the Shakky Leggy show, and journalist David Makali, saying they also played important roles in her career journey.

Terryanne said she carries the support and encouragement from all three men with her, adding that people often become who they are because someone else believes in them first.

“We do not arrive at who we become alone. Someone always says it first,” she wrote.

She ended her message by thanking Rashid Ronald, Tony Msalame and David Makali for seeing her potential before she saw it herself.
