Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding sparks online betting craze

Singer Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce’s rumoured wedding has become one of the biggest pop culture stories of the year, with fans turning to prediction markets to wager on everything from the ceremony’s location to the guest list.

Speculation has intensified after reports emerged that a permit application was filed to close streets around New York’s Madison Square Garden from Thursday, July 2, to Saturday, July 4, 2026.

While neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed any wedding plans, the filing has fuelled widespread rumours that the high-profile couple could tie the knot during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The excitement has spilt into online prediction markets, where users are making forecasts on virtually every aspect of the rumoured celebration.

Beyond predicting whether the wedding will take place in New York, participants are also speculating about the bridal party, celebrity guests, the couple’s first dance song and even whether they will make time to attend a FIFA World Cup match during the festivities.

Prediction markets, which have grown in popularity in recent years, allow people to speculate on the likelihood of future events by buying and selling contracts tied to possible outcomes.

While they are commonly used for elections and sporting events, they have increasingly expanded into entertainment, with Swift and Kelce’s relationship becoming one of the hottest topics.

According to market trackers, millions of dollars have already been tied to predictions surrounding the wedding.

Many participants believe New York is the most likely venue, although some continue to speculate that Swift’s Rhode Island property could host a more private ceremony before a larger celebration elsewhere.

The frenzy reflects the enormous public fascination with the couple. A UMass Lowell/YouGov poll conducted in March found that 35% of respondents viewed Swift favourably, while a Yahoo/YouGov survey following the pair’s engagement in August 2025 showed that 77% of Americans had heard about the engagement, underscoring the intense public interest surrounding their relationship.
