She was not a coward: Rosemary Koech’s sister remembers her as a fearless woman
By Paulette Mboga, August 29, 2026Rosemary Koech Kimwatu’s sister has remembered her as a fearless woman who taught her family to face problems without fear.
Speaking at her sister’s memorial service in Chepseon, Kericho County, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, for a memorial service, she said Koech was a strong person who could stand up for herself.
She recalled how Koech played an important role in their lives when they were young. She said her sister acted as their commander and taught them many lessons that remained important to her. The biggest lesson, she explained, was learning not to fear when faced with problems.
“My sister was our commander when we were very little. There is so much that she taught me. But the biggest thing she taught me was not to fear,” Rosemary Koech’s sister said.
She explained that Koech taught them to face problems directly instead of running away from them. Her sister also taught them how to deal with problems at work by following the right steps and using workplace policies and protocols.
“She taught me when problems come, we face them headstrong,” Rosemary Koech’s sister said.
The family member said Koech believed that people facing problems at work should follow the proper procedures to seek justice. She explained that this was among the lessons she learnt from her sister, whom she described as her teacher.
Remembering a fearless sister
Rosemary Koech’s sister said the lessons her sibling taught her continued to shape how she viewed difficult situations. She explained that Koech did not believe in allowing fear to stop someone from dealing with a problem. She also said her sister knew how to stand up for herself.
“When you encounter something at work, what you do is that there are workplace policies and protocols that you should observe to get justice,” Rosemary Koech’s sister said.
She said Koech’s approach to problems was clear and that she never saw her as someone who would be easily intimidated. The family member stressed that her sister was not afraid to face challenges and would not allow people to bully her at her workplace.
“That is what my teacher, my sister, taught me. I want to assert that my sister was not a coward,” Rosemary Koech’s sister said.
She further recalled her sister’s strength and said nobody could bully her at work.
“Nobody could bully her at her workplace,” Rosemary Koech’s sister said.
Koech was laid to rest on Friday night, August 28, 2026. Her memorial service, held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, brought to an end an emotional week during which Kenya’s technology, legal and corporate communities mourned her as an influential voice in data protection.
