Mosiria urges Communications Authority to take action against content creators sharing explicit material

Geoffrey Mosiria has called on the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya to take urgent action against content creators who intentionally record and share explicit or inappropriate material on digital platforms.

The Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service said some creators use such content to seek attention and chase clout. Mosiria wants the authority to investigate the matter and take appropriate measures where necessary.

“I call upon the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya to take urgent action by investigating and taking appropriate measures against content creators who intentionally record and share explicit or inappropriate content on digital platforms for the purpose of seeking attention and chasing clout,” Mosiria said on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Mosiria raised concerns about individuals using platforms such as TikTok Live to broadcast content that involves sexual acts and other explicit behaviour, adding that such actions raise concerns about the protection of children and the dignity of society.

He also said there is a need for people to use digital platforms responsibly.

“Some individuals have gone to the extent of using platforms such as TikTok Live to broadcast content that is alleged to involve sexual acts and other explicit behaviour,” Mosiria said.

Call for action on digital content

Mosiria said failure to address such matters could create the impression that laws are not being enforced. He explained that it could also make people believe that some individuals are above the law because of their social media influence or public following. According to him, laws should apply equally to everyone.

“If such matters are not addressed and individuals who deliberately violate the law are not held accountable, it creates the impression that our laws are either not being enforced or that some people are above the law,” Mosiria said.

He said the issue is also important because of the possible effect of explicit material on young people. Mosiria argued that failure to act could send a message that such behaviour is acceptable. He said digital spaces should not expose children to harmful material or content that negatively affects society’s values.

“Failure to act risks sending a dangerous message to our young people that such behaviour is acceptable. We must protect our digital spaces from content that promotes immorality, exposes children to harmful material, and negatively influences the values of our society,” Mosiria said.

Mosiria also called for a balance between digital freedom and responsibility. He said people should be able to use the internet while also ensuring that children and communities are protected from harmful content. He added that digital platforms should remain useful spaces for education, innovation and positive engagement.
