Mkamburi Chigogo warns women against promoting some men from boyfriends to husbands
By Paulette Mboga, August 7, 2026Radio host Mkamburi Chigogo has warned women against promoting some men from boyfriends to husbands, saying not every man they date is suitable for marriage.
On Friday, August 7, 2026, she explained that some men can be good to date but may not be the right choice for a woman looking for a husband.
Mkamburi said women should learn to understand the difference between men who are suitable for dating and those who can make good husbands. She argued that some relationships work well when the man remains a boyfriend, sponsor or blesser, without moving to the next stage.
“Kuna wanaume wengine wazuri wa kudate. Lakini ukikubali tu kuoleka na yeye! Yaani ni wazuri kama hawajakuoa,” Mkamburi Chigogo said.

She explained that problems can arise when a woman decides to change the status of a relationship without considering whether the man is suitable for marriage. Mkamburi said some women may make a mistake by assuming that a good boyfriend will automatically become a good husband.
“Sasa kuna mtu tu anafaa abaki boyfriend, sponsor, blesser. Hapo, mwisho,” Mkamburi Chigogo said.
Mkamburi on choosing the right husband
Mkamburi said women should not feel pressured to move a relationship from dating to marriage. She explained that some men are better suited to remain in the role they already occupy, rather than being given a bigger responsibility through marriage.
She warned that changing the relationship status could lead to problems if the man is not the right person to marry. Mkamburi said women should therefore be careful before deciding to move from being girlfriends to becoming wives.
“Ukifanya tu makossa useme eti now you want to graduate from girlfriend, to wife, ni mwisho wako,” Mkamburi Chigogo said.

However, Mkamburi also noted that some men can be the opposite. She explained that there are men who may make poor boyfriends but become better husbands, meaning their behaviour in dating does not always show how they will be in marriage.
“There are some men who make good husbands, like they make lousy boyfriends, unalalamika tu every time eti hiki kiboyfriend kangu. Lakini sasa mkiingia kwa ndoa, utafurahi dadangu,” Mkamburi Chigogo said.
Mkamburi further advised women to know when a man is not meant to be their husband. She said some men should simply not be considered for marriage regardless of how much they try to convince a woman.
“Sasa kuna mwingine, huyo si wa kuoa. Hata akupigie magoti juu ya Mt. Kenya huko akuambie my sister will you marry me, kataa,” Mkamburi Chigogo said.
