However, she advised those outside the younger generation to be prepared for the experience because of the event’s unique atmosphere.

“Summer Tides is like a proper Gen Z thing. Not to say millennials and the rest shouldn’t attend, but yiiiii go prepared!” Mkamburi Chigogo said on Friday, 3, 2026.

Her remarks come as Summer Tides continues to dominate conversations both online and offline. The annual beach festival has become one of the biggest talking points, especially among Kenyan Gen Zs, with many people discussing plans for the highly anticipated event.

Mkamburi did not discourage millennials from attending the festival. Instead, she explained that the event has a strong Gen Z feel, making it different from many other entertainment events.

Summer Tides continues to attract attention

Summer Tides has grown into Africa’s biggest annual beach festival, bringing together different music experiences with DJs from around the world. It is known for combining music, beach life, fashion, and youth culture in one event, drawing thousands of people every year.

For many Gen Zs, the festival offers more than live performances. It gives them a chance to travel, spend time with friends, and enjoy a beach experience while listening to both local and international DJs in one location.

The excitement around Summer Tides has also been driven by social media. As the festival approaches, platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and X are usually filled with countdowns, outfit ideas, travel plans, and videos from previous editions, making the event even more popular.

The beach setting has also helped make Summer Tides stand out from many other festivals. The combination of music, fashion, travel, and the coastal atmosphere has made it one of the most talked-about annual events among young people.

Her message was that while people of all ages can attend Summertides, millennials and others should be ready for an experience that she believes is heavily shaped by Gen Z culture.
