Lilian Ng’an’ga says experiencing hate is just as important as love

By , July 13, 2026

Former Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has shared a reflective message about love and hate, reminding her followers that while everyone longs to experience love, there is also value in encountering the opposite.

In a statement shared through her Instagram Stories on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Lilian encouraged people to see difficult experiences as lessons rather than misfortunes.

“Inasmuch as we always want to experience love, it’s also important to experience hate so you know its look and feel and hence no excuses,” Lilian Ng’ang’a stated.

This comes weeks after she defended her time in office, saying she is not hesitant to speak about the work she did while serving alongside former Governor Alfred Mutua.

In a video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Lilian said a call from a stranger pushed her to openly revisit her role as First Lady and talk about her book and experiences without fear of judgment. She maintained that her work in Machakos County was real, visible, and measurable, adding that she will continue speaking about it in her own voice.

“A call from a stranger reminded me to discuss my Madam FL book without shame or judgment that might come with it. During my time as Machakos County First Lady, what I did was tangible, and I will not shy away from talking about it. Grab your copy (link on my profile) and read about my work as the 1st FL on Machakos County,” she said.

First Lady

During her time as First Lady, Lilian was regularly present at county functions, public outreach programmes, and development initiatives linked to the governor’s office. She often appeared alongside Mutua in events that focused on social welfare, women’s empowerment, and community engagement across Machakos County.

While the First Lady’s role in county governments is not an official constitutional position, it often comes with public expectations, and Lilian was among the more visible figures in that space during Mutua’s tenure. Her presence was closely tied to the county’s public image at the time, especially in development and social programmes.
