Kawira Mwangaza reveals Mathematics was her worst subject in school, discloses her KCSE grade
By Steve Ireri, August 31, 2026Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has revealed that Mathematics was her least favourite subject in school, while opening up about the KCSE grade she attained before pursuing a university course in guidance and counselling, teaching history and Christian religious education.
Speaking in a quick-fire interview shared by Gen Z Buddie on TikTok on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the politician looked back on her school years and disclosed that Mathematics was the subject she struggled with most, while History emerged as the subject she enjoyed the most.
Mwangaza revealed that she completed her secondary education with a C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) before proceeding to university, where she majored in guidance and counselling, alongside the teaching of History and Christian Religious Education.
“My least favourite subject in school was Mathematics, and the best for me was History. My KCSE grade was C+,” she said.
She also disclosed that she grew up in Buuri Constituency in Meru, where she spent her childhood before embarking on the educational and professional journey that eventually took her into politics.
Beyond her academic life, Mwangaza also shared a series of personal details, including her daily routine, favourite food, family life, first job and some of the experiences that have shaped her outlook on life.
“At university, the course I majored in was guidance and counselling, teaching of History and CRE. I grew up in Buuri Constituency, Meru,” she added.
She revealed that her days begin remarkably early, saying she normally wakes up at 5 am before retiring to bed at about 11 pm.
The former governor said prayer is the first thing she does after waking up, making it part of the routine with which she starts her day.
She also disclosed that calling the people close to her and wishing them goodnight is among the last things she does before going to sleep.
“I wake up at 5 in the morning, and I go to bed at 11. The first thing I do after waking up is pray, and the last thing I do before going to bed is call my people and wish them goodnight,” she said.
Mwangaza further revealed that she had different nicknames at different stages of her life, saying she was known as “Weri” during her childhood.
She added that she is currently known by another nickname, “Mama”.
The politician also opened up about her eating habits, revealing that githeri is her favourite meal while chapati ranks among the foods she likes least.
Mwangaza said she is also comfortable in the kitchen and cooks for herself, identifying mukimo as the meal she prepares best.
Her responses also offered a glimpse into her family life, with Mwangaza revealing that her husband is the person she calls most frequently.
“My childhood nickname was Weri, and my current nickname is Mama. My favourite meal is githeri, and my least favourite meal is chapati. I cook, and what I cook best is mukimo. The person I call the most is my hubby. My first job was as a business lady, and at that time I was earning Ksh50,000 per month,” Mwangaza said.
Mwangaza also shared one of the most important pieces of advice she has received, saying she was taught to forgive and heal.
The former Meru governor also opened up about the death that affected her most, identifying the deaths of her brothers as among the most painful losses she has experienced.
She said the loss of her brothers left a particularly deep mark on her, offering an emotional glimpse into the personal experiences behind the public figure often seen on Kenya’s political stage.
“The best advice I have ever received is ‘Forgive and heal.’ The death that hit me the most was the death of my brothers. My political advice to young people is that they should come out because the future is with them,” she added.
