Just vibes and 3 points: Winnie Odinga confident as Arsenal prepares for 10 pm kick-off
By Paulette Mboga, August 21, 2026East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has expressed confidence in Arsenal ahead of their opening Premier League match of the 2026/27 season.
The Gunners are set to begin their title defence at home against newly promoted Coventry City on Friday, August 21, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 10 pm. Odinga said she is expecting a positive start from the defending champions.
“Tonight at 10 pm, the Gunners report for duty,” Winnie Odinga said on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Arsenal won the Premier League title last season, ending a 22-year wait for the trophy. The club will now begin the task of defending the title under manager Mikel Arteta. Their first match will be played at the Emirates Stadium against Coventry City.

Odinga kept her message short and confident as she looked ahead to the match. She said there should be no room for excuses or distractions as Arsenal prepares to return to Premier League action. Her message focused on enjoying the occasion while expecting the team to secure a win.
“No excuses. No distractions. Just vibes and 3 points,” Winnie Odinga said.
Arsenal begins title defence
The new Premier League season marks the return of top-flight football after a long break. Arsenal will have the chance to start their title defence in front of their home crowd when they face Coventry City. The visitors have returned to the top flight after spending 25 years away.

Arsenal have also made changes to their squad ahead of the new season. The Gunners have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle. The move comes as Arteta prepares his team for another 38-match Premier League campaign.
However, injury concerns could affect Arsenal’s plans for the opening game. William Saliba is among the players whose fitness has raised concerns ahead of the match. Arteta will therefore have to consider his options as the champions begin their defence.
For Arsenal, the immediate focus is on Coventry City and securing a strong start to their title defence. With the opening match set for 10 pm, Odinga has made her position clear as she waits to see the Gunners begin their campaign.
