Juma Jux: Tanzanian singer reopens fashion shop that was vandalised by Gen Z during protests
By Steve Ireri, September 21, 2026Tanzanian singer and entrepreneur Juma Jux has reopened his African Boy fashion store months after the outlet was looted during the political unrest that rocked Tanzania following the country’s 2025 general election.
Jux marked the grand reopening of the fashion outlet on Sunday, September 20, 2026, bringing together a star-studded gathering of Tanzanian entertainers, musicians, models and other celebrities who turned up to support him as he celebrated a fresh chapter for the brand.
The emotional reopening saw Jux reflect on the people who stood by him as he rebuilt the business, singling out fellow Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz for special praise.
During his speech, Jux revealed that Diamond had allowed him to use his image to promote African Boy without charging him, describing the favour as evidence of a friendship that had grown into a deep family bond.
Jux pointed to a photograph of Diamond displayed inside the fashion store as he explained the significance it held for him.
“And what I can say is that there is a photo in this shop which is of Diamond Platnumz,” Jux said.
He explained that Diamond had been in Zambia at the time of the reopening and was therefore late in arriving at the launch.
“He was in Zambia; that is why he was late to arrive to this launch,” Jux said.
The singer then opened up about the difficulty of securing Diamond’s image for commercial promotion, noting that it was not easy to have the superstar featured on a billboard or used in a promotional campaign.
“Some of you all who know are aware that it is not easy and is very hard to have Diamond Platnumz in your billboard or to use him for promotion,” he said.
Jux recalled approaching Diamond personally after the incident and explaining what had happened to his business before appealing for his support.
“But when I approached him and told him what had happened and appealed to him, he agreed and did a photo shoot with me and gave me access to all things that I needed,” Jux said.
The singer revealed that Diamond did not ask him for any payment for the promotional support, making the gesture particularly meaningful to him.
“And I never paid him even anything,” Jux said.
Diamond nevertheless made his way to the reopening, with Jux revealing that the music superstar’s presence at the event further demonstrated the strength of their relationship.
“And he has also attended this launch,” he said.
Jux became visibly emotional as he described Diamond as more than a friend, saying the singer had become part of his family.
“So that is more than a friend. That is my brother, my real family, and there are a lot of things coming together,” Jux said.
Diamond’s presence was among the highlights of the reopening, with his wife, singer Zuchu, also attending the celebration.
The event, dubbed the African Boy Grand Reopening, attracted a wide range of Tanzanian celebrities who gathered to celebrate Jux’s return to business with the fashion brand.
Among those who attended were singer Ben Pol, Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu, singer Chino Kidd, Tanzanian model Sophia Amelowa, music producer S2kizzy, actress Masha Lovie and singer Abigail Chams.
