Daddy Owen reacts after becoming a target of online jokes over Charlene Ruto’s Koito

By , August 11, 2026

Gospel musician Daddy Owen has responded playfully after becoming the target of online jokes following Charlene Ruto’s recent Koito ceremony.

The jokes resurfaced memories of the attention that surrounded Owen and Charlene in 2023, when the two sparked dating speculation after Charlene visited the singer’s rural home in Kakamega.

The latest teasing began after Owen shared a birthday message for his friend Eve Maina on X on Monday, August 11, 2026.

“Happy birthday @evenmaina, to many more years. We thank God for the gift of another year. May He continue to bless you abundantly,” Owen wrote.

His post quickly attracted comments linking him to Charlene and her recent traditional engagement ceremony in Kilgoris, where she was formally introduced to the family of her fiancé, Tanzanian technology entrepreneur Isaya Yunge.

One user, Eric Were, joked: “A man who escorts a beautiful woman without telling her anything ends up fetching water at her wedding. Charlene now Eve.”

Owen responded to the comment, telling him: “Buana do your research kwanza before typing another one.”

Another user, Evans Injika, joined the banter, writing: “Rift valley imekuwa ngumu kupanda na kuteremka omwami sasa umeamua kupanda murima.”

Owen replied: “Wewe mgani hapa sindio?”

The jokes continued, with another user commenting: “Haukulearn mambo ya wasichana.”

Why Daddy Owen and Charlene were linked

The online jokes stem from an incident in December 2023, when Charlene visited Owen’s rural home in Ebhusang’ang’a village, Kakamega County.

The visit attracted considerable attention after Charlene received a traditional welcome, including performances by Isikuti dancers.

Photos from the occasion showed Owen tying a traditional leso around Charlene’s waist, prompting speculation among social media users that the two could be romantically involved.

Owen, however, dismissed the speculation and explained that Charlene was his friend and collaborator on charitable and youth-focused initiatives.

Years later, Charlene’s Koito ceremony has once again brought the old speculation back into the spotlight, this time prompting a fresh round of jokes aimed at the gospel singer
