Ouma’s murder
Ouma was shot on June 30, 2026, along Nairobi’s Park Road shortly after a government event in Kariokor, in an incident that sparked public outrage and renewed calls for accountability as investigations continue.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Ouma died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, with pathologists concluding that the injury caused massive internal bleeding and extensive damage to vital organs.
The autopsy, conducted on Thursday, July 2, 2026, by government pathologist Joseph Ndungu in the presence of a pathologist representing Ouma’s family, established that the bullet entered through Ouma’s left forearm near the elbow before penetrating his chest.

“We have done the post-mortem as two pathologists, one representing the government and the other representing the family. The conclusion is that he died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the left side of the chest,” said Ndungu.
He explained that after passing through the forearm, the bullet pierced the lungs, fractured the spine and lodged behind it, causing extensive internal bleeding.
“There was a lot of bleeding inside the chest. There was internal bleeding, and that was the cause of death,” he added.
Doctors successfully recovered the bullet during the examination and handed it over to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) for ballistic analysis. Additional samples were also collected to aid the ongoing investigation.
“The bullet has been retrieved and submitted for ballistic investigations. Other specimens have also been taken to complete the investigations,” Ndungu said.
