Activist Boniface Mwangi has opened up about why he chose to get married at just 23, offering a reflection on one of the earliest major decisions of his life.

In response, he revealed that his faith played a significant role in his thinking at the time.

Mwangi explained that as a committed Christian, he believed intimacy should happen within marriage.

He jokingly admitted that wanting to be intimate was one of the reasons he considered marriage at a young age, noting that he took his faith seriously.

“I got married to have sex. I was a very good Christian,” he said with a laugh.

However, he quickly clarified that there was more to the decision than that.

According to Mwangi, love was the biggest factor behind his choice to settle down at 23.

“I was in love,” he added.

He explained that beyond faith and personal beliefs, his emotional connection with his partner played a key role in deciding to start a family early in life.

Life as a young husband and father

Mwangi went on to reflect on how early marriage shaped his journey into adulthood. He noted that becoming a husband and father at a young age forced him to grow quickly and take on responsibilities he had not fully experienced before.

He is now a father of three and says family life remains a central part of his daily routine. Much of his mornings are spent dropping his children at school before shifting to work-related commitments.

The activist also spoke about the challenge of balancing personal responsibilities with his public role in activism and civic engagement. He said his work often extends beyond what people see online, with many tasks happening behind the scenes.

According to him, a large part of his day involves responding to messages, connecting people with support, and following up on social issues affecting citizens.
