Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash and the widower of gospel singer Betty Bayo, made one of his rare public appearances on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after joining Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and other leaders at a church fundraising event in Machakos County, where he donated Ksh30,000.

The fundraiser was held at AIC Kithyoko Township in Masinga Sub-county, bringing together political leaders, church officials and members of the local community to raise funds in support of the church’s activities and development projects.

During the event, Sudi acknowledged Tash’s contribution while introducing him to the congregation alongside other guests who had attended the fundraiser.

Addressing the gathering, the legislator announced that Tash had donated Ksh30,000 towards the church harambee before inviting applause from those in attendance.

“This guy, who is our friend, has also donated Ksh30,000,” Sudi said.

The appearance marked one of Tash’s few public outings in recent months and came just days after he was spotted at a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) event in Ol Kalou, where he was seen interacting with party leaders and supporters.

His latest public appearance also comes at a time when Pastor Victor Kanyari, who was previously in a relationship with Betty Bayo, has continued making public remarks about Tash over the custody of the children.

Supporting the church

Before the fundraiser began, Sudi shared a message on his Facebook page explaining the purpose of the event and emphasising the importance of leaders coming together to support both the church and community development.

He said the fundraiser brought together leaders from different backgrounds with a common goal of supporting God’s work while advancing development projects at the grassroots, adding that genuine progress is achieved when leaders prioritise the interests of the community above politics.

“Attending a fundraising drive at AIC Kithyoko Township, Masinga Sub-county, Machakos County, alongside fellow leaders. The event brings leaders together to support the church and advance local development. Real progress happens when we put the community first, beyond politics,” he wrote.

During the event, the Kapseret MP also praised Rt. Rev. Joseph Kioko Mutungi of Machakos County for what he described as a candid address highlighting national government projects being implemented across the Ukambani region.

According to Sudi, the bishop also urged leaders from the region to remain united in pursuit of development, a message the legislator publicly commended.

“Today, during a fundraiser at AIC Kithyoko Township, Masinga Sub-county, I was impressed by Rt. Rev. Joseph Kioko Mutungi of Machakos County. He clearly outlined the Government of Kenya’s projects in Ukambani and made a strong call for unity among Ukambani leaders. Ukweli ukidhiri, uongo hujitenga,” he wrote.

After the fundraiser, Sudi thanked the organisers and acknowledged the leaders who had attended the event.

He said he had joined Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo, businessman Elijah Kyuli, Members of Parliament, senators, county leaders, government officials and other guests for the successful fundraiser.

“Today I joined Hon. Joshua Mwalyo, Masinga MP and host, and Mr. Elijah Kyuli, businessman and host, at AIC Kithyoko Township, Masinga Sub-county, Machakos County, for a fundraiser,” Sudi wrote.

Among those he recognised was Hiram Gitau (Tash), whom he listed among the leaders and guests present during the church event.

“I was alongside Hon. Charles Nguna, MP for Mwingi West; Hon. Racheal Nyamai, MP for Kitui South; Hon. Beth Syengo, Nominated Senator; Hon. Sharleen Wambui Maina, MCA Murang’a; Commissioner Ben Muasya, CRA; Commissioner Caroline Nzilani; Hon. Joe Mutambu; Director Bonnie Musambi, State House; Annastacia Muendo, MNA aspirant for Yatta Constituency; Mr. Philip Mainga, Kenya Railways; Dr. Rose Mkalama, REREC; Madam Fridah Wendo, Woman Representative aspirant for Machakos County; Innocent Kimanthi, Senator aspirant for Machakos County; Hiram Gitau (Tash); and Hon. Geoffrey Mungai,” he added.

Sudi further reiterated that church fundraisers play an important role in strengthening communities by bringing together congregants, leaders and well-wishers to support church programmes while promoting development at the grassroots level.

“Church fundraisers like this are vital. They bring congregations and communities together to support God’s work and promote development at the grassroots,” he shared.
