Kenyan content creator and media personality Azziad Nasenya has addressed online criticism over the outfit she wore during a recent Garnier event, explaining that her fashion choice was inspired by the theme of the occasion.

Azziad, who was unveiled as the Face of Garnier East Africa on Saturday, June 6, 2026, described the partnership as a significant milestone in her career and a full-circle moment in her journey as a creator.

Sharing her excitement after the announcement, she said she was honoured to represent the brand and be part of a historic moment for local representation in the beauty industry.

Outfit sparks online discussion

While many people congratulated her on the achievement, others shifted their attention to the outfit she wore during the launch event. Responding to comments on social media, Azziad clarified that her look was carefully chosen to align with the event’s theme rather than conventional expectations.

“Guys, I’ve seen the comments, and apparently some of you think I wore my skirt halfway and forgot to pull it up,” she wrote. “Let me help the genuinely confused ones for a second.”

Why she choose the look

According to Azziad, the event was centred around an “Aqua Chic” theme, which drew inspiration from water, beaches, resorts and coastal luxury. “The theme of the event was Aqua Chic. Think water. Think beach. Think resort. Think pool party. Think bubbles. Think coastal luxury.”

She explained that several elements at the event reflected the theme, including the décor, performers and overall atmosphere. “That’s why there were people in the pool. That’s why there were bubbles everywhere. That’s why some of the performers and bodyguards were literally walking around bare-chested and covered in water.”

Azziad added that the goal was to interpret the brief creatively rather than dress for a formal corporate setting. “The whole point was to interpret the theme, not to dress like we were attending a board meeting in Upper Hill.”

Fashion as a form of expression

The influencer also defended fashion as a creative form of expression, saying not every outfit is meant to follow traditional expectations. “Fashion is not mathematics. It’s not always 1+1=2. Sometimes it’s art. Sometimes it’s storytelling. Sometimes it’s just people having fun with a brief.”

She encouraged critics to consider the context behind an outfit before making conclusions. “So before you conclude that somebody’s skirt has fallen, first ask yourself, ‘Could it be that I’m missing the point?'”

A milestone moment for the creator

The remarks came during what has been a major moment for Azziad’s career. Her unveiling as the Face of Garnier East Africa marked another milestone for one of Kenya’s most recognised digital creators.

The partnership also reflects the growing influence of local content creators, with Azziad describing the opportunity as a full-circle moment and a chance to be part of a historic first for local representation. While the conversation online may have focused on her outfit, the event itself celebrated a significant achievement in her journey as a creator and brand ambassador.
