Actress Zendaya steps away from social media as she turns 30
By Katemarthason Okudo, September 2, 2026American actress and musician Zendaya has stepped away from social media, with her mother revealing that the actress is no longer active on the platforms as she marked her 30th birthday.
Zendaya’s mother, Claire Stoermer, shared the update on Instagram on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as she celebrated her daughter’s birthday with a throwback photo.
Although Zendaya’s Instagram account remains active and has about 177 million followers, the actress has not posted regularly on the platform in recent months.
“Happy 30th birthday to the love and light of my life!! Even though you’re not on socials anymore, and you won’t see this!! We just got off FaceTime!!” Stoermer wrote.
Zendaya’s social media activity
Zendaya’s decision to stay away from social media comes after a period in which she had already reduced her online activity. Her most recent Instagram post was the trailer for Dune: Part Three, which she shared on July 8.

Over the past few years, the actress has mainly used her account to promote her films and share moments from their press tours. She has also occasionally appeared on the platform through birthday tributes shared by her family.
Her reduced presence comes as she has had a busy year in film, with The Drama, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey among the projects linked to her in 2026.
Her husband, Tom Holland, also appears alongside her in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.
Actress hints at taking a break
Zendaya had previously suggested that she wanted to step away from the busy schedule that has come with having several films released in the same year.
Speaking in an interview in March, she acknowledged the amount of work ahead and hinted that she would disappear from the public eye for some time.
“I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year because I’ll tell you what, I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit,” Zendaya said.

The actress is also set to appear in Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled to premiere in December.
Zendaya still wants to work
Despite saying she needed a break, Zendaya has previously admitted that staying away from work for too long can also be difficult for her. In an interview with Elle in May, she explained that she often starts missing work soon after taking time away.
“As soon as I take a break, I start to go crazy. And I’m like, ‘I need to work,’” she said.
For now, Zendaya appears to be taking some time away from social media while continuing with her film commitments.
Her Instagram account remains active, but her mother’s birthday message has confirmed what fans have noticed in recent months, the actress is currently keeping a distance from social media.
