Comedian and television actor Alex Duong has passed away at the age of 42 after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

The actor and comedian was hospitalised over the weekend at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, USA, where he succumbed to complications from the disease.

The news of Duong’s death was shared by his close friend Hilarie Steele on Monday, March 30, 2026, who posted an update on the comedian’s GoFundMe page.

“With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by love and dear friends,” Steele wrote.

“He was comfortable and thankfully out of pain.” Before his passing, she had revealed that Duong had slipped into septic shock while hospitalised and was fighting for his life.

Duong was born in Dallas, Texas, the youngest of six children to Vietnamese and Chinese parents. He later moved to Los Angeles to build his career in entertainment, quickly becoming a beloved figure on the city’s comedy circuit while also earning roles on national television.

Duong is perhaps best known for his recurring role as Sonny Le on the American police drama Blue Bloods, a character he portrayed over three seasons.

Beyond that, he appeared in series such as Dexter, Everybody Hates Chris, and Pretty Little Liars, and contributed writing to Netflix’s Historical Roasts.
