Bishop Edward Mwai explains why witchcraft works on select people and families

Jesus Winner Ministry founder Pastor Edward Mwai has explained why he believes witchcraft appears to work on certain people and specific homes, linking the issue to a spiritual foundation established at birth and connected to ancestral land.

Speaking to congregants during his Abrahamic Covenant ministration on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Bishop Mwai said he had previously tried to explain why, in some cases, when a person is bewitched, the witchcraft seems to succeed.

“Previously, I tried to explain why sometimes, when someone is bewitched, the witchcraft succeeds,” he said.

He posed questions about why some families experience persistent hardship, such as lacking livestock like cows or goats and facing repeated delays in marriage among family members. According to him, these patterns are not random but are tied to what he described as a covenant embedded in the soil of a family’s home.

“What causes that? Why do you find that in your home, you have nothing, not even a cow or a goat, and none of you is getting married? It is because there is a covenant in the soil at your home,” he shared.

He argued that human beings were created from the soil and therefore maintain a spiritual relationship with the ground of their ancestral land.

For that reason, he said, when witchcraft is used against someone, it works because of an existing spiritual connection tied to that soil.

“All of us were made from the soil, and that is why when witchcraft is used against you, it works,” he said.

The bishop further explained that it would be difficult for someone to take soil from a different place, present it to a witch doctor for ritual purposes, and expect the ritual to succeed.

In his view, such an attempt would fail because the targeted individual does not belong to that soil.

He maintained that witchcraft allegedly becomes effective only where there is an established spiritual foundation.

“Let me explain: it is very difficult for someone to take soil from another place, bring it to a witch doctor to perform a ritual against you, and expect it to work,” he said.

According to Bishop Mwai, that foundation is set at birth.

He said that when a child is born and the umbilical cord is cut, a spiritual connection is formed between the child and the soil of the family’s home.

He added that this connection happens regardless of whether the child is delivered at home or in a hospital.

“It cannot work because you do not belong to that soil. There is a foundation that was set when you were born. When you were born and your umbilical cord was cut, even if you were born in a hospital, a connection was formed with the soil at your home. It is what is inside you that is able to destroy you,” he shared.
