Police officer speared to death outside State House gate
By Paulette Mboga, October 13, 2025A police officer was killed on Monday, October 13, 2025, morning after being attacked by a man armed with a bow and arrows near State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road, Nairobi.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued after the attack.
According to police, the 56-year-old approached officers stationed near the area at around 8:10 a.m. Despite being ordered to surrender, the man advanced toward Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow.
The statement noted that General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were on duty responded immediately and managed to subdue and arrest the attacker.
Constable Mattanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for emergency treatment but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical attention. His body has since been moved to the hospital’s mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police launch investigation
The National Police Service strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a heinous act against an officer who was serving his country. The service also commended the officers who responded swiftly, preventing what could have been a much worse situation.

“The National Police Service condemns this heinous act and commends the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm,” the statement read in part.
Investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the attack and the identity of the suspect, who remains in custody. The authorities have not yet released information on whether the man had any known mental health issues or links to any groups.
The NPS expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, describing him as a dedicated officer who died in the line of duty.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. The officer’s next of kin have been notified, and the Service stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” the statement added.
The National Police Service assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure such incidents do not happen again, as investigations into the shocking attack continue.
