Police nab truck driver with 6,000 rolls of cannabis in Mariakani

The National Police Service has once again won the war on drug trafficking.

Through its X handle on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the anti-crime entity revealed that it had arrested a truck driver in Mariakani after he was allegedly found transporting a large quantity of cannabis sativa.

According to the statement, officers from the National Police Service, acting on intelligence, intercepted a trailer along the Mariakani–Mazeras Road where they conducted a thorough search.

Upon a thorough search, they recovered six sacks containing approximately six thousand (6,000) large rolls of cannabis sativa,” the statement read in parts.

The suspect, who was driving the trailer at the time of interception, was taken into custody and escorted to the Coast Regional Police Headquarters for further processing.

Police operation in mariakani

Police said the interception was part of ongoing operations targeting drug traffickers who use major highways to transport narcotics.

They stressed that the successful arrest was made possible by timely intelligence.

On 16th August 2025, while acting on an intelligence report, officers from the National Police Service in Mariakani intercepted a trailer along the Mariakani–Mazeras Road,” the statement read.

Officials said the recovered consignment would undergo further verification before being disposed of in line with legal requirements.

In its message, the National Police Service praised residents for sharing information that led to the arrest.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to strengthening surveillance on transport corridors within the Coast region and across the country.

They encouraged continued public cooperation, describing it as a vital component in the fight against narcotics and in keeping communities safe.
