Police nab man linked to illicit brew in Vihiga
By Cynthia Lodite, November 24, 2025Police officers from Mbale Police Station have apprehended a man linked to illicit alcohol distribution in Vihiga County.
In a post on the National Police Service official X account on Monday, November 24, 2025, the officers confirmed that the person of interest was nabbed following a crackdown on illicit brews in Mbihi Village, Wamuluma Location.
At the time of the operation, the officers were able to intercept illicit liquor that was being transported for distribution from Wamuluma Location.
“Police in Vihiga Sub-County have intensified their crackdown on illicit brews following a successful evening operation in Mbihi Village, Wamuluma Location. During the patrol, officers from Mbale Police Station intercepted illicit liquor that was being transported for distribution,” NPS said.
The officers further confirmed that they were able to seize the exhibits, while the person of interest was later taken into custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
“The consignment was seized and secured as an exhibit pending further legal action. One suspect was taken into custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” NPS added.
On the other end, the National Police Service has affirmed its continued commitment to safeguarding the public from harmful substances that pose risks to health and community well-being.
The police are now calling on members of the public to support the ongoing fight against illicit brews by reporting suspicious activities.

Eldoret crackdown
The Vihiga incident came just days after Police officers in Uasin Gishu arrested two persons of interest and recovered litres of illicit brew after intercepting their car.
In a statement on Saturday, November 22, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrest.
According to NPS, the two were netted following a well-choreographed operation staged by officers from Baharini Police Station. They were waylaid after the officers intercepted a vehicle they were using to ferry chang’aa in several jerrycans.
Upon inspection, they seized the 100 litres of the illicit brew.
“The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and are now in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court. The exhibits have been securely stored at the police facility,” NPS stated.
