Police dismantle chang’aa den, nab one in Kisumu crackdown

Police officers from Ahero Police Station have nabbed a man linked to at least 60 liters of illicit Chang’aa and several rolls of cannabis sativa in Nyando Sub-County of Kisumu County.

In a report by the National Police Service on Monday, November 10, 2025, the police announced that the operation targeting illicit brews was part of ongoing efforts to combat drug and substance abuse.

“Police officers in Ahero, Nyando Sub-County, have intensified operations targeting illicit brews as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug and substance abuse,” NPS said.

According to the police reports, the intelligence-led operation in the Kobura area led to the recovery of approximately 60 liters of illicit Chang’aa and several rolls of cannabis sativa.

Likewise, a makeshift drinking den and other related materials were also destroyed, while one key person of interest was nabbed during the operation.

Police further confirmed that the key person of interest is being held in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court.

Murang’a incident

The Kisumu crackdown came after Police in Murang’a County arrested five persons of interest in the war on illicit brew.

Through a press statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the officers confirmed the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of 20 litres of chang’aa during an operation in Kahaini Village.

The statement said the operation was carried out by officers from Ng’araria Police Station working together with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

The team raided a quarry site near River Thika after receiving information about ongoing illegal alcohol activities.

According to police, the officers found the suspects in the middle of preparing and selling chang’aa.

The team quickly moved in and arrested them before they could escape. Twenty litres of the illicit brew were found at the scene and were taken as evidence.
