Police officers in Laikipia have apprehended a woman as the government tightens its grip on the rising trade of illicit drugs and dangerous alcohol.

The dramatic operation has once again placed the spotlight on hidden drug networks quietly operating within rural communities.

In a statement issued by the National Police Service on X on Friday, November 21, 2025, officers confirmed that the crackdown took place in Laikipia West Sub-County.

This is after intelligence reports on illegal activities linked to narcotics and harmful liquor reached the police.

“Police in the Laikipia West Sub-County have intensified their efforts to curb the sale and distribution of illicit alcohol and narcotic substances, following a successful operation in the African Location area,” the statement read.

The raid was conducted by officers attached to Rumuruti Police Station, who moved in with precision and speed after receiving credible tip-offs from concerned members of the public.

“During the crackdown, officers from Rumuruti Police Station conducted a targeted operation, leading to the seizure of approximately two kilograms of cannabis sativa,” the National Police Service confirmed.

The operation led to the apprehension of a female person of interest, who is now in police custody as investigations continue.

“A female person of interest was apprehended and taken to the station, pending her court arraignment. The seized substances were secured as evidence for further investigation,” the statement added.

The move has sent a strong warning to illegal traders who continue to gamble with the safety of communities. Authorities say such substances fuel crime, destroy families, and expose young people to lifelong addiction.

In its closing message, the police reaffirmed their determination to stamp out illegal drugs and toxic alcohol across the country.

NPS sounds an alert to Kenyans

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and harmful alcohol, which pose a threat to public safety and community well-being,” the statement read.

The service also urged citizens to play an active role in the fight against narcotics.

“Members of the public are encouraged to support the fight against illicit substances by reporting any suspicious activities via the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112.

“Anonymous reports can also be made using 0800 722 203, or through WhatsApp on 0709 570 000,” the police advised.

Interestingly, this Laikipia operation comes moments after another similar incident in Tassia, Nairobi, where police recovered 20 kilograms of cannabis sativa worth Ksh 500,000, with a key person of interest narrowly escaping capture.

The back-to-back operations paint a clear picture: the war on drugs is intensifying, and the message from law enforcers remains firm: no county is off limits.
