Police cancel protests in Siaya after student is found dead
By K24 Digital Reporter, September 19, 2025Tension remained high at Siaya National Polytechnic for close to three hours after police cancelled a planned demonstration by a section of residents over the murder of a 21-year-old student manning a shop at Siaya town.
The deceased, a Building and Civil Engineering student, met his untimely death while guarding a shop adjacent to Siaya KMTC. He was manning the electronics shop.
The assailants brutally assaulted him, tied him up, and left him for dead before fleeing with goods of unknown value.
Confirming the incident on Friday, September 19, 2025, the institution’s principal, Daniel Randa, stated that the police have already launched an investigation.
“We have just ended a meeting that involved the top security officers and a private security company that the deceased worked with, and we have been cautioned against engaging the press over the matter,” Randa said.
He, however, said the school administration has been barred from addressing the press, citing the presidential visit.
“Going to press with such matters paints Siaya in a bad light, especially now that the president is coming to Siaya. The matter is being handled by DCIO, and we do not want to jeopardise investigations,” Randa explained.
The deceased, who hailed from Kolal village in West Alego, was earning Ksh 6000 per month.
Elsewhere, a 14-year-old student was found in the dormitory with a deep cut on his neck and later died while undergoing treatment.
