Police have arrested a man linked to the brutal murder of Lilian Achieng Aluko after days of intensive manhunt.

In an update on Friday, November 8, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the man was arrested at his hideout in the Kaanwa area of Tharaka Nithi County.

According to authorities, the arrest followed a coordinated effort between DCI headquarters and their Meru counterparts.

The man’s arrest marks the successful conclusion of a detailed investigation that began on November 1, 2024, the night he is believed to have fatally attacked the deceased, with whom police say he was romantically involved.

Police say the man vanished without a trace following the horrific crime, managing to erase all clues that could lead authorities to him.

The discovery of Aluko’s body by neighbours in the morning sent shockwaves through the community.

According to police, Aluko’s lifeless body was found soaked in blood, with a stab wound behind her right ear and visible injuries on her face and hips.

“After the heinous killing, [he] disappeared and erased his footprints. Police and the neighbours would only wake up to a slain Achieng, whose lifeless body lay soaked in blood with a stab wound at the back of her right ear and visible injuries on her face and hips,” DCI said.

Investigations revealed that on the night of her murder, Aluko, a 33-year-old radio presenter, and the man had spent time together at a local establishment before heading to his residence in Kahawa West.

What followed was a violent altercation that escalated tragically.

Police say neighbours, alerted by screams coming from the man’s locked house, were unable to intervene due to the overpowering sound of his music.

Tragically, the scream would be the last sound Aluko ever made, as her life was cut short that night.

“In an ugly turn of events, the attention of the neighbours was drawn to loud screams from [the man’s] locked house, which were quickly deafened by loud noise from his sound system.

“Unaware that the distress call was the last Achieng would ever make, the neighbours went back to their houses hoping that the duo would resolve their issues.

“That night, the life of a 33-year-old lady with a blossoming career as a presenter at a local radio station was ended,” DCI said.

Authorities have confirmed that the man is being processed for arraignment, while the DCI continues its investigation into similar cases to ensure justice is served for all victims.

“The suspect is currently being processed for arraignment as the DCI continues to investigate all other cases of a similar nature to ensure justice for all victims,” police said.
