Person of interest on run as police recover firearm in Huruma

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 19, 2025, when officers encountered a person of interest who ran upon noticing their presence.
During the pursuit, the individual dropped an item, which was later identified as a firearm. The weapon has been secured and documented by crime scene personnel and is now under safe custody pending further investigation.
Authorities have launched efforts to track down the individual, with investigative teams actively following leads.
The National Police Service commended the quick response and alertness of the officers involved and urged the public to provide information that could enhance community safety.
“Police officers in Huruma, Starehe Sub-County, have recovered a firearm during a routine night patrol in the early hours of 19th November 2025. During the patrol, officers encountered a suspicious individual who, upon noticing the police presence, fled the scene. During the pursuit, the person of interest dropped an item before disappearing into a dark passageway,” the statement read in part.
“Officers secured the area and recovered the firearm, which has since been documented by crime scene personnel. The weapon is now in safe custody, pending further examination. Efforts to identify and apprehend the person are ongoing, with the relevant investigative teams handling the matter.

This comes after Lamu police have arrested four people following a raid in the Wiyoni area that uncovered a cache of weapons and a significant quantity of drugs.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Lamu Police Station, acting on a tip-off from the public, conducted the operation on November 18, 2025. During the raid, the police recovered various weapons, including pangas, spears, and metal rods, alongside a large quantity of cannabis sativa.
The suspects are currently being held at Lamu Police Station and are expected to be processed and presented in court in the coming days.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to combating crime and safeguarding the public.
