One arrested as police intercept bus ferrying bhang worth Ksh300K
By Ascah Mwango, October 14, 2025Police in Busia have arrested one person of interest after intercepting a bus transporting bhang valued at approximately KSh 300,000.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the officers acted on a tip-off and stopped a Nairobi-bound bus at the Suo roadblock along the Busia-Kisumu Highway.

Upon inspection, they discovered 10 bales of Cannabis sativa weighing about 10 kilograms.
The individual believed to be linked to the illegal consignment was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in court.
Police praised the swift and coordinated efforts of the officers who carried out the operation and reaffirmed their commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the country.
The National Police Service also urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to help combat such criminal activities.
“Officers from the National Police Service, based at Busia Police Station, acted on a tip-off and intercepted a bus destined for Nairobi at the Suo roadblock along the Busia-Kisumu Highway. Upon searching it, they recovered 10 bales of Cannabis sativa with a total weight of 10 kilograms, worth approximately KSh 300,000,” the statement read in part.

“One suspect was arrested in connection with the recovered narcotics. He was escorted to the station and placed in custody, awaiting arraignment in court. The National Police Service commends the swift and coordinated efforts of the officers involved in the operation and reiterates its full commitment to the ongoing fight against drug trafficking. Members of the public are urged to continue sharing timely information to assist in combating such criminal activities.”

Separate raid
This comes hours after police in Buruburu Sub-County arrested a man suspected of involvement in a major bhang operation at Umoja 1 Market, where officers seized about 20 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis.
In a statement issued by the NPS on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, authorities said the suspect had been under surveillance.
“Police officers from the Nairobi Region have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered a large quantity of cannabis during an operation in the Umoja 1 Market area, Buruburu Sub-County,” NPS stated.
According to the police, the seized drugs included 3,000 prepared rolls and 33 packages of cannabis, which were retained as exhibits. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be charged in court.
