Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has honoured an invitation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement about the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, which occurred in 2024.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 14, 2024, the CS revealed he had no hesitation in stepping forward to recount the chilling events surrounding his son’s kidnapping.

He emphasized the deeply personal nature of the case and vowed to do everything in his power to ensure justice is served.

“Today, I honored an invitation from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement at Kilimani Police Station regarding the abduction of my son, Leslie Muturi, last year. This matter remains deeply personal to me as a father, and I am committed to supporting every effort to ensure justice is served. I have full confidence in our investigative agencies and their tireless pursuit of the truth,” he stated.

Photos shared on his X account and videos circulating on social media showed the cabinet secretary entering Kilimani Police Station, flanked by police officers.

As he stepped inside, the door behind him closed, leaving many to speculate about his fate, especially after his recent comments failed to strike a chord with his boss, President William Ruto.

DCI responds to Muturi

While responding to Muturi’s claims that authorities had slept on the case, DCI boss Mohamed Amin, on Sunday, January 12, 2024, stated that the case could have been solved sooner but stagnated due to a lack of formal statements—only the lawmaker’s son had come forward.

“Considering that only the son volunteered to record a statement, we now invite CS Muturi and anyone with further information on the incident to come forward,” Amin said.

Amin’s comments followed a strong statement from the cabinet secretary, in which he criticized the government and law enforcement agencies for failing to address the growing issue of abductions.

The remarks came just a day after the CS held a press conference at a Nairobi hotel, revealing the terror his family has faced since Leslie’s abduction by masked men.

During the conference, he recounted the futile efforts he had made to free his son and expressed the torment he endured while waiting for answers.

He added that for months, he was uncertain whether his son was dead or alive and chastised the government for not making arrests after six months of investigation.

“I was left in the dark, unsure if he was alive or dead. This uncertainty tore my family apart,” he said.
