Mob lynches 2 linked to murder of Grade Six boy in Njoro

Two men, among them a former convict, were lynched by an angry mob at Sunrise Estate in Njoro Sub-County after they were accused of sodomising and killing a 14-year-old Grade Six boy.

According to Njoro Deputy County Commissioner Mokin Ptanguny, the men were cornered by locals after suspicions arose that they had attacked the boy as he returned home from church on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Ptanguny said the body of the minor was discovered on Monday morning after a thorough search along the route he used to attend church.

“Those suspected were killed by locals. One of them had recently been released from prison,” he stated.

He added that one of the suspects had earlier threatened another boy, saying he would “kill him like he killed another woman in the village.”

Milka Wanjiru, the mother of the deceased, said her son had gone to church carrying his Bible, only for the family to find his body later that evening.

“My son attended church well, and after the service was even given the Bible by his father to go home ahead of them. I did not set my eyes on him again since that last moment, even after a thorough search, until screams directed me to the scene,” she said.

Residents have condemned the rising insecurity in the area, accusing police of laxity in handling criminals terrorising the community.

Residents urged police to intensify patrols and ensure suspects are prosecuted rather than left to roam free.

The incident in Njoro follows a string of similar cases across the country. In Limuru, residents of Gichungo village tried to lynch a suspected serial sodomiser, setting his house ablaze before police intervened.

The suspect, who allegedly attacked multiple children, fled and remains at large, highlighting gaps in law enforcement across jurisdictional boundaries.

Similarly, in May 2025, a pastor in Nyeri’s Witemere slums was lynched by a mob after being accused of sodomising a nine-year-old boy, showing a troubling pattern of vigilante justice in communities frustrated by delayed or ineffective police action.
