Kendu Bay: Police recover 94 rolls of bhang, 37 litres of chang’aa during raid

The war on drug abuse and substance abuse has received another boost.

This is after police officers from Kendu Bay in Homa Bay County seized 94 rolls of cannabis sativa and 37 litres of chang’aa.

This, according to the authorities, happened during a targeted security operation in Rachuonyo West Sub-County.

Police conduct a raid in Homa Bay

According to a statement by the National Police Service on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the operation was carried out in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers.

“Police officers from Kendu Bay Police Station, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), conducted an intensive operation against illicit brews and narcotic drugs on 25th November 2025 in the Kakoth Kataa area of Rachuonyo West Sub-County,” the statement read in part.

During the crackdown, officers intercepted two suspects who were allegedly found transporting and storing the illegal substances.

“During the operation, two suspects were arrested after being found in joint possession of 94 rolls of cannabis and 37 litres of Chang’aa,” the National Police Service stated.

The suspects were immediately taken into police custody as investigations continued.

Police escalate the war on drug abuse

“The suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges,” the statement added.

Authorities say the operation forms part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling networks involved in the production and distribution of illegal brews and narcotics.

The illicit drugs have continued to pose serious health and security risks to local communities.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to sustaining similar operations across the country, targeting individuals engaged in the production, distribution, and sale of illicit brews and narcotic substances,” the statement further noted.

Residents of Kakoth Kataa welcomed the move, saying the presence of illicit alcohol and drugs has contributed to rising crime and social instability in the region.

Security officers have urged members of the public to provide intelligence to help flush out those behind the illegal trade.

The National Police Service has assured Kenyans that similar intensified operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to protect public safety and uphold the rule of law.
