Elderly man arrested as Sotik DCI recovers 200kg of bhang

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI ) have arrested a 65-year-old man at Kameswon village in Sotik sub-county for having cannabis sativa in his farm.

In an operation that was conducted on Friday, November 14, 2025, the DCI said that intelligence information led them to the arrest of the person of interest at his farm

 The officers searched his homestead, where they found the green leafy bhang in the house of his son, who managed to escape.

Officers managed to recover approximately 200 kg of green leafy cannabis sativa and another 43 rolls of the substance.

“The green leafy plants were uprooted and all kept as an exhibit at the station,” the police report reads.

The person of interest has been placed in custody, waiting to appear before the Sotik law courts on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Bomet town has been in the discussion over the rising business of bhang amongst the youth.

The arrest came days after police officers from Nambale Police Station had nabbed a man linked to bhang worth Ksh180,000 wrapped nicely in a green handbag.

In a statement by the National Police Service on its official X account on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the police confirmed that the person of interest was apprehended at a roadblock along the Nambale-Mumias Road.

At the time of the interception, the police confirmed that they were able to recover at least six kilograms of cannabis sativa while taking the key person of interest into police custody, as he awaits processing and arraignment.

“Officers from Nambale Police Station yesterday arrested a suspect and recovered six kilograms of cannabis sativa at a roadblock along the Nambale-Mumias Road. The suspect is in custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court,” NPS said.

On the other hand, the police confirmed that the bhang, which was neatly wrapped in a green bag, has an estimated street value of Ksh180,000.

The National Police Service has affirmed its commitment to the fight against narcotics and illicit brews while encouraging members of the public to support the fight by providing relevant information.

“The recovered narcotics, with an estimated street value of Ksh. 180,000, were secured as an exhibit.
