Autopsy confirms Rongai’s 4-year-old Rajvil Anika died by accidental drowning
By William Muthama, November 8, 2025The mystery surrounding the death of four-year-old Rajvil Anika in Rongai has been resolved after an official autopsy confirmed that the child died as a result of accidental drowning.
For several days, the boy’s death had been surrounded by disturbing reports suggesting he was assaulted, bound, and thrown into a river by two older playmates, aged nine and twelve.

Rongai Deputy Sub-County Commander Benjamin Kiprono said the post-mortem results provided a clear medical explanation for the boy’s death.
“The autopsy indicates that the child died of asphyxia due to drowning. There were no signs whatsoever of sexual assault, binding, or external injuries,” Kiprono stated.
The police say the report should end speculation and misinformation that had spread widely both online and within the community. Kiprono further cautioned the public against circulating unverified information, noting that such actions only deepened the family’s pain and complicated the investigation.
“We urge the public to allow investigators to work with facts. The child’s death was accidental, and we are pursuing all leads to understand how it happened,” he added.
Investigators are now concentrating on retracing the young boy’s final moments before the tragedy.
Authorities are gathering witness statements, including from the two children aged nine and twelve who were reportedly playing with Rajvil before he disappeared.

Probe continues
Kiprono noted that the police were examining whether negligence or lack of supervision contributed to the accident.
“Our probe continues to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the drowning,” he said.
This horror comes months after a similar incident in Nairobi, where an 8-year-old boy drowned while swimming with friends during a visit for a tuition exchange programme. The children had entered a pool at a private residence unsupervised, and the tragedy unfolded before any adult could intervene.
