6 arrested in possession of 79 brooms of bhang
By Nancy Marende, August 15, 2025Police in Kisii have arrested six persons of interest in possession of seventy-nine brooms of cannabis sativa and rolling papers (Rizla).
In a statement on August 15, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that the arrest followed a drug den in Jokivilla, Nyamataro area, Kisii Township, by a multi-agency security team led by the Kisii County Police Commander.
“During the operation, the team seized seventy-nine (79) brooms of suspected cannabis sativa, along with rolling papers (Rizla),” read the statement.
The main person of interest, who is out on a Ksh5 million bond over similar charges, escaped the dragnet. Police have launched a manhunt to track him down.

This comes well after the National Police Service confirmed the arrest of two drug traffickers in Kitutu Central Sub-County in Kisii County on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
In a statement shared via its X page, the NPS said the pair was found to be in possession of 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa after being intercepted during a mobile patrol along the busy Kisii-Migori highway.
“During a mobile patrol along the Kisii-Migori Road, police officers from Nyanchwa Police Station in Kitutu Central Sub-County intercepted 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa today,” the NPS stated.
According to the law enforcers, the two will be arraigned in court on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Peddler
The Kisii burst came moments after the police confirmed arresting a drug peddler on Friday, August 1, 2025.
The incident occurred during an intelligence-led operation by police officers from Kirwara Police Station in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County.
In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Saturday, the officers reported recovering 63 rolls of bhang hidden in the suspect’s jacket.
“Police officers from Kirwara Police Station in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, conducted an intelligence-led operation on August 1, 2025, at Kirwara Shopping Centre, targeting narcotics peddlers.”
“During the operation, officers arrested one, a known drug peddler in the area. A swift search at the scene led to the recovery of 63 rolls of bhang concealed in the suspect’s jacket.”
The person was placed in custody pending processing and court arraignment.
