2 more firearms surrendered in Tiaty as Baringo’s disarmament drive hits 230
By Mustafa Juma, November 6, 2025The government’s ongoing disarmament campaign in Baringo County has recorded yet another success after two more illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered in Tiaty Central on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS) shared via social media, the Sub-County Security Team received two AK-47 rifles and five rounds of ammunition as residents continue to heed the government’s call to hand over unlawfully held weapons.
The latest handover pushes the total number of firearms voluntarily surrendered in Baringo County to 230, alongside 789 rounds of ammunition, marking a significant milestone in the region’s peace and security efforts.
This follows Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s commitment to a relentless crackdown on illegal firearms in the North Rift.
“As part of the ongoing government initiative to encourage residents to surrender illegally held firearms, the Sub-County Security Team in Tiaty Central, Baringo County, today, 5th November 2025, received two AK-47 rifles and five rounds of ammunition. This latest surrender brings the total number of firearms voluntarily handed over in Baringo County to 230, alongside 789 rounds of ammunition,” the NPS statement read in part.
Cooperation between residents
NPS commended the growing cooperation between residents, community elders, and local administrators, noting that such collaboration is crucial in restoring long-term stability in an area historically affected by armed conflict and banditry.
“The National Police Service commends the continued cooperation of local residents and community leaders in supporting the government’s efforts to enhance peace, security, and stability in the region,” NPS stated.

Security agencies in Tiaty and across Baringo continue to work closely with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), peace committees, and community policing units to encourage peaceful coexistence and further disarmament.
Police commitment
NPS reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors through sustained security operations, intelligence-led policing, and voluntary weapon recovery exercises.
“NPS remains committed to working closely with local communities, National Government Administration Officers, and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and ensure the safety of all citizens, residents, and visitors through sustained disarmament and community policing initiatives,” the statement read.
