2 arrested in targeted operation against narcotics in Kakamega
By Mustafa Juma, October 22, 2025Police in Kakamega County have arrested two persons of interest during a targeted operation against illicit brew and narcotic substances in Nangili Market as part of ongoing efforts to curb the trade and consumption of illegal drugs in the region.
According to a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, via X, officers from Nangili Police Station conducted the operation on Wednesday morning, leading to the recovery of 64 rolls of cannabis, 50 grams of loose cannabis, Ksh 7,500 in cash, and assorted equipment believed to have been used in the preparation and packaging of the drugs.
“Today, 22nd October 2025, police officers from Nangili Police Station conducted a targeted operation against illicit brew and narcotic drugs within Nangili market. They arrested two suspects in possession of 64 rolls of cannabis, 50 grams of loose cannabis, and KSh 7,500, believed to be the proceeds from drug sales, along with assorted equipment used in the preparation of the drugs,” the statement read in part.
The arrest follows the arrest of another person of interest found in possession of narcotics in the same county.
Evidence kept
The two persons of interest were immediately escorted to Nangili Police Station and placed in custody, where they are awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
The recovered items have been secured as evidence pending forensic analysis and presentation before the court.

NPS further commended the arresting officers for their professionalism, efficiency, and responsiveness during the operation.
“The suspects were escorted to the station and placed in custody, pending processing and arraignment in court. The evidence was also secured at the station. National Police Service commends the officers for their professionalism, efficiency, and responsiveness to the needs of the public, as well as for their accountability and transparency,” NPS stated.

The operation in Nangili is part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal narcotics and illicit liquor, which has seen hundreds of arrests and seizures made in recent months. Law enforcement agencies have stepped up surveillance in known hotspots in Western, Central, and Coastal Kenya.
