Police have arrested four more people suspected of torching and looting Kikuyu Constituency CDF offices during the June 25, 2024, anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a statement on Friday, July 5, 2024, said several recoveries had also been made during the arrest.

School-going boy

The DCI says a school-going boy is among the suspects arrested.

The four arrested are 28-year-old Samuel Muiri Ruiyi, 23-year-old Samuel Wanjohi, a 16-year-old form three boy and 23-year-old Paul Kuria Njenga.

A 32″ TV set was recovered from the house of Samuel Muiri Ruiyi, who works as a driver at a primary school in Nderi area.

Muiri led the police Wanjohi’s house from where they recovered another 32″ Sony TV belonging to the Kikuyu CDF offices.

“Four more suspects linked to the arson incident where CDF offices were looted and torched in Kikuyu Constituency have been arrested and several recoveries made from their houses. From the house of 28-yr-old Samuel Muiri Ruiyi who is a driver at a primary school in Nderi area, a 32″ TV set was recovered, before he led the officers to his accomplice Samuel Wanjohi, 23, who was also in possession of another 32″ Sony TV belonging to the CDF offices,” DCI said in the statement.

The 16-year-old school-going boy, DCI says, was arrested after he was captured on CCTV cameras disappearing with a Bluetooth speaker, which was recovered by the police during his arrest.

Paul Kuria’s arrest came after he was also captured on CCTV cameras making away with several office equipment during the arson incident.

The DCI says the office equipment was later sold to unsuspecting Kenyans in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

“A 16-yr-old form three boy from a Kabete school was also among those arrested, after he was captured on a CCTV footage disappearing with a bluetooth speaker. The speaker was also recovered.

“In Rironi area of Limuru, Paul Kuria Njenga, 23, was also arrested after he was seen stealing several equipment that he later sold to unsuspecting buyers in Kitengela. The suspects pend arraignment at the Kiambu Law Courts,” the DCI said.

On July 1, 2024, two suspects were arraigned before a Kiambu court for the offences of arson and malicious damage to property.

Naftary David Njama Gatuota and Joseph Kuru Waweru are accused of having taken part in the setting on fire of the Kikuyu NG-CDF offices valued at Ksh20 million, malicious damage to property valued at Ksh2.5 million and damaging the office of the Kikuyu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner valued at Ksh600,000.

The two who unsuccessfully vied for elective posts during the 2022 elections, however, denied all three counts and were released on Ksh1 million bond with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh200,000.
