Veteran media personality Willis Raburu has for the first time narrated the reason behind his shaved dreadlocks.
Refuting claims of his past dreadful experience being the reason for his dreadlocks, the media personality disclosed that he had his locks on as a slight show of rebellion, adding that he was tired of being micromanaged by persons around him.
He explained how the change in his look at the prime of his TV career was not a well-thought-out plan, adding that he just wanted to have fun.
“Persons thought that I was going through something, but for me, it was just for fun; it was just hair; I just wanted to put the hair on, plus it was a little bit of a mini, a very small percentage of a rebellion because I felt like everybody was telling me what to do and how to be, and I wasn’t making the decision for myself that I wanted,” he explained.
“I remember calling these guys and I was like hii nywele yangu naweza weka locks? They said tunaweza anza na artificial, and I said okay, am coming; it was that simple; it wasn’t like, Let me just think and hatch a plan on how I can do this; it was just hair.”
Recounting painful events that happened moments before the drastic change in his looks, the father of two stated that he was going through divorce and child loss, adding that he needed change.
“When I went for the dreadlocks, at the time I felt like I just needed a change because that was the time I went through my divorce child loss, and the immediate thought of people was he has put on his dreadlocks because he is going through something, but mine wasn’t it,” he explained.
Willis on why he shaved his locks
However, in 2022, Willis had his locks shaved, having rocked it for close to two years.
During an interview on August 24, 2022, he explained how he faced criticism from persons who disliked his dreads.
“There is a lot of pressure to remove them. Persons had all sorts of stuff to say after I put on my locks. Although I had some ups and downs, that was not the reason I put on the locks, It is something that I have always wanted to do,” he said.
