Media personality who doubles up as an event organiser Willis Raburu has commended multitalented musician Willy Paul‘s stage performing skills.
Taking to his social media account on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Raburu, while commenting on the unfortunate events that happened during the Furaha City Festival on Saturday night of December 7, before Willy Paul got on stage said that he (Willy) has mastered the art of stage presence.
He went on to say that amid the fracas, he was the one who insisted on Pozze and his dancers performing at the event during the fracas adding that he even sorted them out backstage to ensure full and proper access.
In addition, the former TV host disclosed that he was the one who negotiated for the singer his current endorsement with a betting firm.
“To my brother Willy Paul. I can never take away from the fact that you are a great performer. You know the truth, you know who was sorting you out with your 40 dancers backstage to ensure full and proper access, who came to get you, you know who even made sure and negotiated for your current betting firm deal, you know even for you to perform who insisted and let you and your dancers onstage literally pulling you up. For the avoidance of doubt, you know it was me,” Willis said.
Raburu further advised the Na Na Na hitmaker to always appear with discipline and decorum during music events and concerts.
“You know the truth and you know what you did. I hope you still get more shows but I hope you appear with discipline and decorum,” he added.
He further noted that the events that happened at the just concluded festival were a learning lesson.
“Were there things that we should have done differently? Perhaps. Have we learned lessons? Yes.” he added.
Willis on Kenyan music
Meanwhile, he noted that Kenyans love listening more to Tanzanian music compared to local based on the 2024 statistics released on the most viewers artistes on YouTube in Kenya which shows Bongo musicians dominating the top ten.
“This is 2024. from the stats, It is Kenyans who love TZ. Who listen to them, stream and view them. It is time we truly be honest with them and truly and wholeheartedly make our own kings and queens by actually supporting them even online not just talking and not acting,” he said.
In the spirit of Buy Kenya Build Kenya, Raburu urged Kenyans to change the music stats come 2025 by supporting local musicians by viewing and listening more to their songs adding that this year music lovers and industry stakeholders have failed local artistes.
“It is cool to sound great online but let’s actually build Kenya. How? Let’s actually listen to their music more, and view their videos more because based on these stats this year, as a collective, we have failed our artists and let’s be honest. So it’s time we look in the mirror, and I will be the first. Let us make up our minds that come 2025 these stats will change,” he urged.
Noting his love for local music, Willis disclosed that throughout his career he has been supporting Kenyan musicians and even collaborated with some of them.
“Throughout my career, I have supported Kenyan artists through all my shows and platforms. This year, we have had the Wabebe Caravan as well and had Kenyan artists, so I can be accused of so many things but never abandoning Kenya and Kenyan artists,”
“I have been on the streets for this country and I have fought even for Kenyan artistes’ rights when no one wanted to play gengetone I hosted them, and when they wanted to stop arbantone I embraced them. I even went ahead and collaborated with amazing artists that got over 8M views,” he added.
