Wema Sepetu decided to seek the help of a cleric after an embarrassing and humiliating ordeal at the hands of her mother Mariam Sepetu.
Mariam publicly scolded her daughter over her relationship with Whozu during her birthday celebration held on September 28, 2023.
Wema’s mother angrily denounced her daughter’s relationship with Whozu, noting that she did not bless the union because she had not introduced her lover to her.
Mariam demanded respect from Wema and Whozu, lamenting that her daughter had only introduced her lover to the general public and not to her.
“Nataka nizungumze kitu kimoja, hana mzazi, mzazi wa kiume hayupo imebaki mimi. Heshima ya mama au heshima ya mzazi, lazima umrespect mama yako. Una boyfriend huna haja ya kumpeleka popote, njoo uji introduce. Njoo umueleze mama yako nina mchumba, nina bwana, nina so and so. Sio munakuja kuji introduce mbele ya halaiki. Simzuii mwanangu ni heshima nataka itawale. Nataka muturespect tukiwa wazazi,” Mariam ranted at her daughter’s birthday party while giving Wema Sepetu a dressing down.
Pastor’s advice
Wema Sepetu sought a pastor’s advice over her mother’s behaviour at her birthday party.
Speaking to the pastor during a radio session, Wema inquired whether her mother’s action was appropriate especially on that occasion when she was celebrating her birthday.
“Mamangu alichukua mic na kuna maneno aliongea pale. Aliongea vitu ambayo vilikua vinamkwaza yeye kama mzazi. Alizungumzia swala la mtoto wa kike na wa kiume wakiamua kuishi katika nyumba bila ndoa au bila kuenda kujitambulisha kwa wazazi. Lakini aliongea kwa jazba sana na aliongea pale mbele ya kadamnasi na ikiwa siku yangu ya kuzaliwa. Wewe unalionaje hii baba? Was it appropriate for her to do that? Ilikua ni sahihi ama ilikua vipi? That’s what I want to know,” Wema Sepetu asked the pastor.
The cleric insisted that people need to be corrected in a gentle manner and with a lot of wisdom at play.
“Sisi watu wa Bibilia katika Galatia sura ya sita inasema ndugu akighafrika nyinyi wa roho murejesheni mtu huyo kwa upole. Wewe ambaye hujakosea unapaswa kumresha mtu kwa upole na kwa busara mtu ambaye amekosea. Mimi nimekosea na wewe umekosea hatumalizi ubaya kwa ubaya. Hekima ni kumaliza jambo baya bila kuzalisha jambo lingine baya,” he said.
Wema further asked the preacher in her situation who was at fault, her mother or her.
“Na hapa baba unapo ongelea mtu aliyekosea na mtu aliyekosewa katika situation yangu kama hii ambaye nimekuelezea nani ambaye kakosewa na nani kakosea hapa?” Wema asked.
The cleric noted that even if Wema Sepetu was at fault, the occasion was not right to bring out the issues about her relationship with Whozu.
The preacher added that human beings are blessed with the knowledge of knowing the right environment to talk about the issues at hand.
“Ata kama binti amekosea lakini kuna mizingira ya kuzungumza pia. Wanadamu tumepewa maarifa tumepewa akili tunajua kuzungumza mambo yetu wapi,” the preacher said.
“Kwa hio lazima ujue wapi pa kuzungumza kitu gani? (So it is a must to know where to talk about some issues?)” Wema Sepetu inquired further.
“Ehhhh. Unakua na nia njema sawa lakini wakati mwingine nia njema inaharibiwa na njia ya kufikia nia njema (Yes. The intention can be good but sometimes even a good intention can be spoiled by the avenue used to get to that good intention),” the preacher clarified.
He added; “Mazingira yale ilikua mazingira ya kukumbuka siku ya kuzaliwa ya mtu, sio mazingiza ya kumuambia mtu ju ya habari za uchumba (that environment was for commemorating someone’s birthday, it was not an ocassion to tell someone about their relationship).
Wema Sepetu was celebrating her 33rd birthday on September 28, 2023, five years after she hit the brakes on throwing herself birthday parties.
After her mother gave her a tongue lashing at her birthday party, Wema Sepetu took to social media to express her pain.
The former Miss Tanzania termed her 33rd party celebration the worst birthday party in her life and vowed never to hold another birthday party ever.
“Nia na Madhumuni yangu ilikuwa ni kutaka kusherehekea siku yangu ya kuzaliwa n kuenjoy na wapenzi wangu ila haikuwa vile nilivyotarajia… Inshort shughuli yangu iliharibika sana… Lengo langu halikutimia… Nimejitahidi kufanya kitu kizuri ambacho kingenifurahisha sana siku ya Birthday yangu ila haijakuwa… … Najiskia vbaya sana… This was the worst Birthday Party of my Life nd nahisi sitokuja fanya Party tena kwenye maisha yangu… Naumia moyoni mwangu ila kila kitu kinatokea kwa sababu… Ndo maana acha tu niseme “Alhamdulillah”…” Wema Sepetu wrote on Instagram on September 30, 2023.
