Wapendwa Muziki honour late friend Peter Shire with emotional song tribute
By Steve Ireri, August 29, 2025Gospel duo Wapendwa Muziki have paid a heartfelt tribute to their late friend Peter Shiretuya, who tragically passed away after a prolonged illness.
The artistes marked his memory with a moving song and a music video, describing the process as both emotional and celebratory.
In a video shared on their YouTube page on Friday, August 29, 2025, the artistes could be seen reuniting with Kabi Wa Jesus and other public figures who had been part of Shire’s inner circle, joining together in prayer for his soul.
In the footage, the artistes revealed that they had created the song from scratch to honour Shire and prayed that God would continue to protect and shield his spirit.
“We are not happy, but we are celebrating the life that Peter lived because that is how it should be. Today, we are creating the music video for the song we made for him, and the theme is all white because we are emotional. But it’s a beautiful song,” they said.
Earlier tribute
The tribute follows a private gathering held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, where the duo, together with content creator Kabi Wa Jesus and his wife Milly, honoured Peter in the presence of family and friends.
During the intimate ceremony, the artistes led prayers, shared memories of Peter’s life, and reflected on his enduring faith.
During the gathering, Ninah of Wapendwa Muziki led attendees in a worship song, while her husband Mesh provided vocals, and a pianist delivered a moving musical backdrop.

Emotions ran high as the group recalled Peter’s journey, noting that he had recently begun showing signs of recovery, which made his passing even more poignant.
In addition to the tribute, Wapendwa Muziki appealed to the public for support in raising funds for Peter’s medical bills and funeral expenses.
The goal was to collect Ksh3 million to ensure a dignified send-off. They urged followers to contribute whatever they could, emphasising that every donation would go a long way in honouring Peter’s legacy.
“Still so hard to believe 😭. We are raising 3 million to clear his hospital bill and give him a dignified send-off. Whatever you can give will go a long way,” they wrote on social media.
Kabi Wa Jesus also reflected on Peter’s resilience earlier in the year, noting that after battling illness for four months, Peter had shown remarkable recovery.
He noted that on January 1, 2025, he had even managed to drive, giving hope and inspiration to those around him.
“On that very day, one of our friends reminded us that in all things we give thanks and began singing Asante Yesu. In that moment, I saw the Word of God come alive, though it is very hard. Truly, in all things we must give thanks,” Kabi wrote.
The gospel duo expressed comfort in the belief that Peter, being a born-again Christian, is now in heaven, and that they would meet him again.
“The comfort we hold onto is knowing that, because you were born again, we will see you again in heaven, our dear brother @petershiretunya,” they noted.
For Wapendwa Muziki, the new song is not only a farewell but also a celebration of Peter’s life, friendship, and faith. The choice of a white theme for the music video symbolises both mourning and purity, capturing the emotional depth of their loss while honouring Peter’s legacy.
