Wanjiku Stephens questions govt over voter registration glitches
By Paulette Mboga, October 22, 2025Content creator and actress Wanjiku Stephens has raised concerns over challenges facing voter registration, questioning the government’s commitment to ensuring that citizens are able to register on time.
In a video she shared on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Wanjiku said she noticed that her previous clips urging Kenyans to register as voters had been flagged as ineligible for recommendation on online platforms.

She said this raised questions about whether the government truly wants young people to register.
“Jana nilikua na scroll video zangu za kitambo, and there is a video nilifanya nikiwaambia go register as a voter. That video has been termed as ineligible to be recommended to people. And then I scrolled again. There is also another video I had done telling you to register as a voter. Surprisingly, this video has also been termed as ineligible to be recommended,” she said.
Extension of voter registration period
Wanjiku went on to say that several of her followers had contacted her, saying they had visited voter registration stations listed on her bio, only to find no activity taking place.
“There are people who are writing me messages saying I have gone to 1,2,3 voter registration stations as you have indicated on top of your bio through the links. In those locations, nothing is going on. Hakuna watu, wanakuambia system iko chini,” she said.

She expressed frustration that systems were reportedly not working in some areas, making it difficult for citizens to register within the set timelines.
The actress questioned whether the government was genuinely interested in having more people register to vote, saying time was running out and many Kenyans might be locked out.
“My question is, serikali, do you guys really want us to register as voters? To be honest, time is running out. Mtuambie, what is going on?” she said.

Wanjiku called for an immediate extension of the registration period, arguing that citizens should not be punished for failures beyond their control.
“I think the best thing to do is extend the registration period. Come on, give us a break,” she added.
Her remarks come amid growing public concern over delays and technical challenges at some voter registration centres across the country.
