Tributes pour in following death of comedian KK Mwenyewe
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 15, 2025Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, has mourned the passing of popular entertainer Zachariah Kariuki, famously known as KK Mwenyewe, who gained fame for imitating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In his tribute posted on his social media pages on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Nyoro described the loss as tragic and sudden, referring to KK Mwenyewe as a very talented and creative comedian.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and noted that the news of his death was still hard to believe.
“This is tragic and sudden. Zachariah Kariuki (Mr KK Mwenyewe) was a very talented and creative comedian. We send our most heartfelt condolences to his family following his passing on. It is still unbelievable. Poleni sana. May KK Rest In Peace.” Nyoro said.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya also paid an emotional tribute, sharing KK Mwenyewe’s last skit and acknowledging his exceptional talent in comedy. He referred to him as the real deal when it came to comic performance.
Omtatah’s tribute
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described KK Mwenyewe as a gifted comedian whose voice strongly resonated with the current generation.

He praised him for using satire to highlight critical societal issues and referred to him as a cultural commentator and a brave young patriot who used humour to awaken, educate, and unite the nation.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as Mr KK Mwenyewe, a young and talented comedian whose voice resonated with the spirit of a generation.”
“Through satire and art, KK courageously held a mirror to society, using humour not to divide, but to awaken, educate, and unite. His ability to capture the political moment with sharp wit and authenticity was both refreshing and powerful. Kenya has lost not just a comedian but also a cultural commentator and a brave young patriot. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire creative community,” he said.
Former Roots Party deputy presidential running mate Justina Wamae has joined the growing list of Kenyan leaders who have come out to mourn the late comedian, saying that the late really cracked her ribs.
“RIP Mr KK, you really cracked my ribs,” Justina stated.
His demise
His demise was confirmed by his counterpart Kafengo on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

According to Kafengo, KK Mwenyewe died on Monday, July 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment at the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
“We Are Heartbroken To Announce The Sudden Demise Of Zakaria Kariuki, a.k.a. Kk Mwenyewe. He passed away yesterday evening while undergoing medical attention at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital,” he announced.
In his condolence message, Kafengo has called on Kenyans for their support and prayers during this difficult time.
“During these sad moments, we ask for support and prayers for the family and friends. May God give us strength at these difficult Times. May His Soul Rest In Peace,” he added.
