By Steve Ireri, September 17, 2025Media personality Azeezah Hashim has encouraged women to take the lead in spoiling their partners as the world marks national take a man on a date month in September.
Speaking on a local radio station on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Azeezah highlighted that the celebration is meant to flip traditional dating norms, allowing women to plan and treat their lovers, while also reminding men that they should expect to be pampered.
“Men, are you aware that September has been dubbed National Take a Man on a Date Month? You who have someone, me I don’t, so my own plan is just to keep the fire burning,” she said.
Hashim, who is currently single, acknowledged her own situation but emphasised that the message is for women in relationships.
“I know some girls might be upset with me for saying this, but I am single and it does not involve me,” she added.
She noted that those without partners can still enjoy the celebration by observing and learning from couples, keeping the spirit of the month light-hearted and inclusive.
She urged women not to feel guilty about spoiling their men, stressing that the month provides an opportunity to take control of dating rituals and show appreciation to their partners.
“If you have lovers, take them out on a date. This is a way of encouraging women to spoil their men and flip the traditional dating norms,” she said.

Hashim also reminded men that they are the prize in relationships, highlighting that the celebration is about reversing traditional roles and giving women the freedom to express affection.
“To those who are dating, enjoy the month. Others of us are just watching and waiting for our own turn. But yes, men, remember you should be taken out on a date because you men are the prize. Ladies, the field is yours,’ she added.
National day
National Take a Man on a Date Month, observed each September, is an unofficial celebration that encourages women to take the initiative in planning and treating their male partners to a date.
This observance emerged in 2014, gaining traction through social media platforms, particularly X, where users began promoting the idea of reversing traditional dating roles.
The movement advocates for gender equality in relationships by encouraging women to express appreciation and affection through thoughtful gestures, such as planning a date for their significant other.
While not officially recognised, the month-long observance has resonated with many, fostering discussions about equality and the dynamics of modern relationships.
