Gospel artiste Shiru wa GP has shared a heartbreaking account of how Betty Bayo’s children reacted when they saw their mother’s blood on the stairs after she was rushed to the hospital.

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a friends and family gathering, Shiru said that Betty’s disease had been hidden in her body, and at one point, she lost the ability to speak.

She explained that the family had planned for chemotherapy, and it was important that Betty’s children see her because they were unaware of how serious her condition had become.

“Waliona damu kwa stairs, walikua wanauliza mama yetu ako wapi. Walikua wanafikiria mama yao alichinjwa ama something happened. Tukasema wakuje pale AAR waone mama yao, tukumhamisha to Kenyatta,” Shiru said.

Shiru explained that Betty’s children were deeply shocked when they saw her. adding that her daughter, Sky, had not known that her mother had suffered a stroke.

Betty looked at her children, recognised them, and tears began streaming down her face. Sky wanted to get into the ambulance to speak to her mother and whispered to her, “Mom, I know you are a fighter; utatoka hapa, Mom.”

Sky knelt in the ambulance and prayed, “Mungu usiwache mama yangu akufe.”

When they arrived at Kenyatta Hospital, she stayed for two days, but by then the illness had already severely affected her body.

Betty’s final struggle

Shiru recalled the critical moments when Betty’s condition worsened.

“I want blood. I want blood. A positive. Hivyo ndio Betty alikuwa ananiambia. Nikaona huyu Betty si mwenye niliwacha usiku. Na ni mgonjwa sana. So tukaharikisha AAR, tukaita watu wote wakakuja, tukaita familia,” she said.

After some time, Betty suffered a stroke.

When Shiru went to care for her, she realised her mouth had shifted unnaturally. They were informed that she was bleeding from her head, and it became clear that her illness had turned serious.

Betty was immediately admitted to the ICU, where they stayed with her until nightfall. The following day, her condition did not improve, and despite all efforts, the severity of her illness left little hope.

Shiru’s account highlights the emotional and chaotic moments of Bayo’s final hours, showing how her children were confronted with the harsh reality of her illness and the desperate attempts to save her life.
