Following his appeal for support, veteran rapper Colonel Mustafa has received more than Ksh600,000 thanks to a collective act of kindness.

Mustafa caught the attention of netizens after an undated video was shared online where he was seen working as a casual labourer at a construction site.

Later, a Twitter user identified as Fauz Khalid shared a phone number where well-wishers could donate and in a recent update he stated that so far, the ‘Lenga Stress’ rapper has surpassed half a million grant.

We are at Ksh600,000 Those trying to send cash and failing should try after midnight as he has surpassed his daily limit A pay bill will be up by Monday I am speechless!! May Allah bless you all,” Khalid tweeted.

What happened to Mustafa?

Mustafa told his story in an episode on Mungai Eve‘s YouTube channel where he revealed he spent his ‘life’s savings’ on his mother’s medical fees and lost his job in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ilianzia between Nairobi Diaries then ikakuja Corona, zilishikana. Corona ndio ilichangia but at least nilijaribu kufanya vitu zingine, so nikajipata kwenye mjengo.

Haikua kutaka kwangu kujipata kwenye mjengo. Nlijipata kwa sababu ya mama. Nilitaka kumsaidia mama kwa sababu…yaani mimi bila yeye sijui,” he emotionally narrated.

Mustafa disclosed that his mother is suffering from lymphoma cancer.

Hii ni kitu imenifanyikia. Mamangu amekua mgonjwa cancer sasa hio ndo ikachangia sana sasa ndo naenda kupiga kibarua sababu pesa inaenda sana sasa niweze kumsaidia. Alikua na lymphoma,” he said.

Lymphoma is a cancer that begins in the infection-fighting cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes. These cells are in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and other parts of the body. When you have lymphoma, lymphocytes change and grow out of control.

Lymphoma is very treatable, and the outlook can vary depending on the type of lymphoma and its stage.

He says he is ready to forfeit music and focus on other ventures.

Ngoma sina rights, sjawai pata shilingi ata. Mziki haijakuwa ikifanya vizui, kila nikitoa muziki inakataa,” he stated.
