Murkomen should not be in leadership – actress Idah Alisha
By Paulette Mboga, August 14, 2025Actress Idah Alisha has called out Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, calling for his removal from leadership.
In a strongly worded statement on Instagram on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Idah questioned Murkomen’s mental state following his remarks on the controversial BBC documentary on child sex trafficking in Kenya.
“We need him to get a mental evaluation. This man can’t be sane, and he should not be in leadership,” Idah said. Her comment came after Murkomen dismissed the BBC investigation as a hoax, claiming the documentary was staged to mislead the public.
The backlash stems from Murkomen’s appearance before the National Assembly on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, where he addressed the allegations raised in the BBC exposé. The documentary alleged the existence of a child sex trade in parts of Kenya, sparking public outrage and international attention.

Murkomen told MPs that investigations by anti-human trafficking and protection units had revealed that BBC journalists behind the film promised witnesses substantial payments and lifestyle benefits in exchange for participating.
“Fourteen witnesses have been interviewed, and their statements recorded with relevant documents obtained. All locations featured in the BBC documentary have been identified, visited, and documented by the crime scene investigation team,” Murkomen said.
“According to witnesses, BBC representatives promised substantial payments and lifestyle benefits to those who were involved,” he added, insisting that none of the individuals shown in the film were minors.
Online debate
Murkomen’s remarks have sparked heated debate online, with many accusing him of downplaying serious allegations of child exploitation. Idah Alisha’s reaction was one of the most direct, questioning his suitability for public office.
Media personality Betty Kyallo also weighed in, sharing a post about Murkomen’s statement with the caption, “Gotta be kidding me,” reflecting disbelief at his handling of the matter.
The controversy comes at a time when conversations about child safety, accountability, and press freedom are dominating Kenya’s social and political discourse. Supporters of the documentary argue that it sheds light on a grave issue that needs urgent action, while critics echo Murkomen’s claims that it was deliberately misleading.
As the debate continues, public scrutiny remains firmly on both the government’s response and Murkomen’s role in addressing or dismissing the allegations.
